Golden Temple A pilgrimage to the Golden Temple is a must for any Sikh or a believer of humanity & God. This is the most sacred shrine of the Sikhs and is in the town of Amritsar founded by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru. The temple was built by Guru Arjun Dev and the great Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh embellished the shrine and covered the domes with gold. The temple is in the middle of the holy tank called the Pool of Immortality dug up by Guru Ram Das. The temple is a pleasing square building in marble with inlaid walls and a domed roof. The holy book of the Sikhs the Guru Granth Sahib is kept under a Sikh canopy and pilgrims file past it. A few yards away from the temple is the Akal Takht (The Immortal Throne) from where the Gurus held court. This is a building of immense historical significance for Sikhs and is the place where decisions concerning the religious and social life of the community are taken. At any given day, the Golden Temple is full of devotees yet there is a great air of tranquility and peacefulness.

Jallianwala Bagh - the historic site where hundreds of innocent Indian men, women an children were massacred by British General Michael Dyer on April 13, 1919. A memorial and Garden have been created here as a national monument.

Durgiana Mandir Amritsar also houses a wonderful temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga. Easily accessible from the Golden Temple, the Durgiana Mandir also offers puja to deities of Lakshmi and Narayana. Supposedly built during the 16th century AD, the temple lies in the middle of a medium sized lake giving it a wonderful overall view. The temple, a massive structure, was built on the style of the nearby Golden Temple. Worth a visit.

Indo-Pak Border to watch retreat ceremony on the road to Lahore is India-Pakistan Border. A visit to the border is an interesting experience especially at Sunset, when the retreat ceremony takes place with the Border Security Force on the Indian Side and the Sutlej Rangers on the Pakistan side putting up a well-coordinated and spectacular display. The sound from the Bugles blown together from both sides paints past on the canvas when India and Pakistan were one, simultaneously Flags of the two nations are ceremoniously retrieved and lights are switched on marking the end of the day. Amidst thunderous applause today, this point is the only land route open to approach Pakistan and central Asia. By evening return to your hotel for overnight stay.
